January 2007 Program Announcement:
Honolulu Advertiser
The Next 150 Years
The Honolulu Advertiser is celebrating its 150th year. But what does the future hold for The Advertiser and for newspapers in general? How is the media landscape and state of the newspaper industry changing?
Mark Platte will share how The Advertiser is adapting to new reading habits and demands by creating the state's first 24-hour newsroom, complete with around-the-clock updates, video, community Web sites, blogs, podcasts, and other innovations. As the state of the industry changes, how will your role as public relations practicioner need to adapt in response?
Mark Platte is the editor and vice president of The Honolulu Advertiser. As editor, Mark is in charge of all aspects of news coverage and the editorial page. He oversees more than 140 employees of the state's largest newspaper. Over the last 25 years, he has reported and managed news for various newspapers across the country, including Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, The Miami Herald, and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
