October 2006 Program Announcement:
A Key to the Boardroom
with Brandt Farias and Chuck Freedman

Experienced communications executives Brandt Farias and Chuck Freedman provide insight into what it takes for public relations professionals to become an integral member of their organization's top advisory team. Learn from these executives about what is truly strategic and what is expected from a communications professional to be a trusted advisor at the "boardroom table."

Brandt G. Farias, executive vice president and manager of the Marketing Communications Division at First Hawaiian Bank, has some 25 years experience in the fields of marketing and public relations. He oversees the bank's advertising, corporate communications, direct mail and special events department as well as the deposit and IRA product areas. He was appointed to the bank's senior management committee in January 2006. Farias has been involved in the growth of the bank, which is now the largest in Hawaii, responsible for building the deposit, loan and small business portfolios as well as investment fee income for the company. Other major projects include the acquisition of First Interstate Bank of Hawaii and Pioneer Federal Savings Bank and the development of the bank's new headquarters building, First Hawaiian Center.

Charles "Chuck" M. Freedman recently retired as vice president of corporate relations for Hawaiian Electric Company, overseeing corporate communications. His prior experience includes serving as the State Director of Communications in the first term of Governor John Waihee's administration. Freedman also served as the deputy director for the Big Island's community action agency. Freedman's numerous community activities included "Live Aloha," the Executive Board of the Honolulu Media Council, Aloha United Way's marketing and fundrasing campaigns, and most recently, as Commissioner for the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
