Strategies for a Successful National Publicity Campaign with Rob Kay

A former journalist with the San Francisco Chronicle Foreign Service, Rob Kay will share his strategies for placement in prominent national publications. Kay was also a regular contributor to USA Today, Newsday, San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle, Arizona Republic, San Jose Mercury, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Seattle Times and the Philadelphia Enquirer. Since the 1980fs Kay has worked as a public relations consultant with high technology and real estate companies in Hawaii and on the U.S. Mainland. His clients include Oceanic Time Warner, The Hawaii Science & Technology Council, and the Entrepreneur's Foundation of Hawaii--a nonprofit founded by John Dean, former CEO and Board Chairman of Silicon Valley Bank.

A few of Kay's accomplishments in technology industry include:

1. Developed a national public relations program for Hawaii-based software developer and real estate analyst Mike Sklarz of Fidelity National Financial. Resulting programming garnered stories in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Business Week, Washington Post, USA Today, Barron's, Newsday, Los Angeles Times and a number of other major dailies across the nation.

2. Took a small company from Lincoln, Nebraska (Covalent Technologies) and helped them set up shop in San Francisco. He orchestrated a promotional campaign that netted them articles in Forbes, ABC News, Red Herring, CNET and other publications. The resulting publicity helped Covalent secure $5 million in VC funding and launched the company.

3. Set up PR program for Silicon Valley-based open source software pioneer Cygnus Solutions and got them national attention in Forbes and other publications. This helped position the company for an acquisition by Red Hat, a major open source software firm.
