An editor's observations of upcoming media trends
Honolulu Advertiser editor Saundra Keyes discusses
local and national media trends affecting public
relations professionals and the clients and issues they
represent.
Previously the managing editor of the Contra-Costa
Times, managing editor of The Miami Herald, executive
editor of The (Long Beach) Press-Telegram and
managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News, Keyes
joined The Honolulu Advertiser as editor in December
2000. Keyes oversees the Advertiser's newsroom of
140 employees, the largest newsgathering organization
in Hawaii.
Before becoming a journalist, Keyes served as an assistant professor of English
at Fisk University. She earned her B.A. degree at the University of Utah and her
M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Indiana University. She is a member of the American
Society of Newspaper Editors and is president of the Accrediting Council on
Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, which accredits college
journalism programs.
