Come and listen to two chief executive officers, Dee Jay Mailer, Kamehameha Schools and Janice Head, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, on how they incorporate communications at multiple departmental levels to facilitate success with their internal and external constituencies.

Dee Jay Mailer, Kamehameha Schools
Dee Jay Mailer's professional experience has spanned the globe, but her work has always been focused on helping others. Named Kamehameha School's Chief Executive Officer effective January 19, 2004, she now focuses her energies on educating children of Hawaiian ancestry, through the Kamehameha Schools, from which she graduated in 1970. Mailer was the former Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of The Global Fund, a private Swiss foundation created by the world's top developed countries. Mailer, along with the Geneva based team, raised and distributed funds to support the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in developing countries. She created and managed the fund's administrative operations in collaboration with international partners, including the World Bank and World Health Organization. During her tenure, some $3.4 billion was raised from international donors, $33 million of which was disbursed in grant funds to 92 countries.


Janice Head, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii
Janice L. Head was named president of the Hawaii Region in January 2003. She is responsible for the overall administration of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii's health plan and hospital which provides health insurance and medical care for more than 234,000 people in Hawaii. She was most recently senior vice president and service area manager for Kaiser Permanente California's TriCentral Service Area, which has a membership of 700,000. She has been with the California Region since 1996 in various management and executive positions.

presented by Lee Collins, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc., and President of the American Marketing Association Hawaii Chapter

Explore how the Battleship Missouri Memorial, utilizing a integrated marketing plan consisting of advertising, public relations, promotions and other communications disciplines, has been re-branded as an American Icon and positioned within the local visitor industry to successfully compete, as a non-profit organization, with for-profit attractions.

A graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), Collins retired from a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy to help build the Battleship Missouri Memorial. Lee began as director of visitor operations designing the tours, ticketing, retail and overall visitor experience, eventually taking over marketing for the memorial. Collins accepted the position of AMA Hawaii president in July 2006.
